|Abstract:||A collection of materials on peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland, including documents relating to the work of religious organizations. The collection includes papers of a number of religious groups that formed between 1990 and 2005 to work towards reconciliation, and also on the work of the Consultative Group on the Past. The collection includes also pamphlets and books.Most of the collection dates from 1984 to 2006.|

Acquisition and Processing Note: The Ronald Wells Collection of Peace and Reconciliation in Northern Ireland was given to the Hesburgh Libraries as a gift by Dr. Ronald Wells in 2017. Arranged and described 2017, by Aedín Clements and Liam Maher. Finding aid 2017, by Aedín Clements. The arrangement and description is based on the collection description provided by Dr. Ronald Wells.
The collection consists of 126 folders containing reports, publications and correspondence of organizations, mostly religious, relating to peace and reconciliation in Northern Ireland. The materials were gathered in the course of research by Dr. Ronald Wells.
Included are print materials such as reports, event programs, sermon texts and discussion and training materials from organizations, mainly church organizations. Ecumenical dialogue, peacebuilding and reconciliation are central to most of the materials.
The collection is arranged in twelve series as follows: Series 1: Clonard-Fitzroy Fellowship; series 2: Presbyterian Church in Ireland; series 3: Church of Ireland; series 4: Evangelical contribution on Northern Ireland; series 5: Columbanus Community of Reconciliation; series 6: Healing Through Remembering; series 7: The Consultative Group on the Past; series 8: Christian Renewal Centre; series 9: pamphlets and reports; series 10: press clippings; series 11: audio and video.
- Series 1: Clonard-Fitzroy Fellowship. The Clonard-Fitzroy Fellowship was brought about by the work of Fr. Gerry Reynolds of Clonard Monastery and Rev. Dr. Ken Newell of Fitzroy Presbyterian Church. Founded in 1981, the Foundation aims to promote mutual understanding, respect and a common witness between people from various Christian traditions in Northern Ireland. The collection includes sermons and statements by Fr. Reynolds and Dr. Newell, minutes of meeting of the CCF, press releases and documents relating to the peace prize awarded to the CCF, and correspondence.
Father Gerry Reynolds (1935-2015) was a Redemptorist priest. From his arrival at Clonard Monastery in Belfast in 1983, he became a leader of the movement for peace and dialogue, and was instrumental in making Clonard a center of peace dialogue in Northern Ireland. With Rev. Dr. Ken Newell of Fitzroy Presbyterian Church, he formed the Clonard-Fitzroy Fellowship.
Very Rev. Dr. Ken Newell served as pastor at Fitzroy Presbyterian Church in Belfast from 1976 to 2008. His friendship with Redemptorist priests Fr. Christopher McCarthy and Fr. Gerry Reynolds led to the formation of the Clonard-Fitzroy Fellowship and to various important peace talks. Rev. Dr. Newell is a former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland.

- Series 5: Columbanus Community of Reconciliation. Founded in Belfast in 1983 by Catholic ecumenical thinker and activist, Fr. Michael Hurley, S.J., this was a small intentional-living community of Protestants and Catholics in an interface district on the Antrim Road. It was meant to show that people from the two communities could live together. It sponsored community conversations and seminars, and it worked with the better-known church and parachurch organizations. It was led for fifteen years by Fr. Hurley and later by Sr. Roisin Hannaway.
